She was given a question at school and she was supposed to find an answer to it. Her question was " How far does a snail travel in a minute". Each child in her class was given a different question to research. A couple of the other questions given were..."How do cookies turn out if one ingredient is left out" and " What glue helps two blocks of wood stay together better" This I thought was a great new twist on the project report! She put her whole heart into it. We collected some snails early in the morning where I had seen some on my morning walks. I got her up and took her with me one morning. She collected ten of various sizes. She loved her snails and planned on keeping them for a week to nourish them and get them ready for her race. We kept them in bug catcher cages. Five in each. Feed took care of them everyday. I guess they stayed there too long because some wild animal got to them one night. Crushed shells covered the porch and there were holes in the netting that keep the snails in. She was so devastated and cried and cried for those snails. Two had survived in the corner top of one of the cages. She talked to them like they were her long time pets. When she asked them to come out that it was now safe they did and she let them slime and crawl on her arms, hands and clothes etc. It grossed out the rest of us out but she didn't care. She even made snail out of playdough and let them dry out and tape them the the board. Then she even made slim so she could show what it was that they leave behind. It finally became time for the snail to do is stuff and then she and Tim went and released them once she was done. She loves animals!!!
The ten of them.
Feeding time (tomatoes and leaves)
Measuring the distant in a minute.

The second graders also did an Egg Drop. Both Tim and I had to work so my Mom went to watch and her camera died, so no pictures, plus no pictures of her making it either. The kids were supposed to come up with something to put a raw egg in and have it survive a drop from the top of a building at school. I remember doing this in elementary and it was fun. Josie told me all the things she needed and I supplied her with them and she put it together. The only rules were it could not be bigger then 7x7x7 and the egg had to be raw in a zip-lock but then packaged with whatever you wanted. Josie had a small box that was put into a larger box. Around the little box she had sponges and Easter grass and lots of tissue paper. She then made a parachute out of a plastic grocery bag. We taped the lid on the biggest box and wrote her name on it and it was ready. Her egg.........DID NOT BREAK!!!! Hurray!!!!!!! Thanks Mom she was happy that someone could go to it!!!!
